Getting started
Everything you need to put your WhatsApp to work. No code required. In ten minutes you'll connect your number, organize your inbox, and leave the automation running.
1. Connect your number
In WhatsApp Sessions, create a session, name it (say "Sales") and scan the QR code from the phone that owns the number: WhatsApp → Settings → Linked devices → Link a device.
That's it: messages to that number appear in your inbox, and the phone keeps working as usual. Connect more numbers depending on your plan.
- •Tip: turn on "Save contacts automatically" on the session so everyone who writes in gets recorded in Contacts.
2. The message inbox
Messages holds every conversation: reply with text or files, leave internal notes (never sent to the customer) and mark conversations resolved.
Work it as a team: assign each conversation to an owner, tag it with colors, and filter by status, assignee or tag.
- •Quick replies: save a sent message from its ⋯ bubble menu and reuse it with the composer's ⚡ button.
- •Tags: create them on the fly from a chat or manage them in their own section.
3. Contacts
Contacts is your address book: WhatsApp name and number, plus company, email, website, Instagram and notes. It fills itself if you enable auto-save on a session, or from a flow via the "Save contact" node.
Each contact shows which of your numbers they've written to. Useful when sales and support run on separate lines.
4. AI agents
An AI agent replies for you in your own voice: define its character and instructions, upload reference documents, and use your own Anthropic or OpenAI key. You control the model cost.
Assign it to a session and it answers inbound messages. It can pause itself and alert you when a conversation needs a human, and you can pause or resume it per conversation from the inbox.
- •On Pro and Business, agents can also use MCP tools to query your own systems.
5. Human agents & mirror groups
A human agent is a real person answering from their own WhatsApp. No account or password needed: just their number.
When a lead is handed to a human, whathooks creates a mirror group on WhatsApp with that person. Everything the lead writes appears in the group, and whatever the agent replies reaches the lead as your brand. The lead never sees the agent's personal number.
- •Link a human agent to a team member so handoffs also assign the conversation to them in the inbox.
6. Flows (beta)
Flows is your visual router: it decides what happens to every inbound message. Connect nodes for keywords, AI intent classification, agent replies, human handoff (one person, round-robin, or a shared team group), tags, contacts and webhooks.
Start from a template, assign it a session and enable it. The Runs panel shows the path each message took, so you tune without guessing.
- •Tip: check "Copy the conversation history" on handoff nodes so the human gets the full context when the group opens.
7. Your team & roles
Invite your team from the Team section. Roles define what each person sees: Admin manages everything; Member works the inbox (optionally limited to certain sessions); Operator only sees the conversations you assign to them. Ideal for support staff.
